With Grandma’s Marathon fast approaching, let’s look at some of the best options for your eyes. This includes options for best vision as well as eye protection.

For the best vision and ease of use, contact lenses can provide a comfortable option. Daily lenses work great and are comfortable all day long. This can also eliminate the frustration with glasses sliding down your nose while running or any fogging of the lenses. Hopefully the weather is nice, but rain can cause vision issues with glasses as well.

Ultra light frames with lightweight materials will be more comfortable on long runs. Glasses can also come with grippy nose pads or temples to help hold them in place.

Bifocals are not typically needed for running. Reading your watch to check the time, your pace, or maybe look at the song you’re listening to may be an issue, but ear buds nowadays can aid in this without reading. If this is something you absolutely need, lower powered bifocals may be a better option. Don’t forget that transition lenses are an amazing option for outdoor enthusiasts. They will darken during your run when the sun comes out and can also be worn post race indoors if needed and will lighten again.

What about the rain? Hats are a great option for protecting your glasses, but on a windy day they can only go so far. Consider special sprays for your lenses to create a hydrophobic barrier. You can also carry a microfiber cloth for a quick wipe down.

Whichever your method for your best vision, good luck on race day!
