Patients who have advanced AMD can sometimes see images that are not real- in the past it was thought that the brain was filling in the areas of lost vision, called Charles Bonnet Syndrome. New research finds those with advanced AMD do have hypersensitive visual cortex in the brain- causing hallucinations.
