We’re excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Dr. Sam Kuchinka! 
With a passion for helping patients see the world more clearly (wrinkles and all), he brings both expertise and a great sense of humor to the clinic.
“It Was the Only Option.”
When asked why he chose ophthalmology, Dr. Kuchinka doesn’t hesitate:
“It was obvious to me as a medical student that ophthalmology was the only option. Vision is essential and improving it is the greatest reward I could ask for… except when a patient suddenly realizes they can now see more wrinkles.”
Fair enough, doctor. Clear vision comes with a few surprises!
The Best Part of the Job? The Big Reveal.
For Dr. Kuchinka, nothing beats the moment a patient sees clearly without glasses for the first time.
“The shock and awe patients have when they can see clearly without glasses for the first time. Priceless.”

Cataracts: The Club Nobody Joins (But Everyone’s In)
When it comes to the conditions he treats most often, Dr. Kuchinka keeps it real:
“Nobody wants cataracts, but everyone will get them.”
It’s one of those universal life experiences, like taxes, gray hair, and realizing you’ve been holding the menu farther away each year.
His Top Eye-Health Tip? Sunglasses.
If he could give the community just one piece of advice, it would be simple:
“Sunglasses!! They protect your eyes and make you look cool. Maybe not the last part, but you can dream.”
UV protection and style points? We’ll take it.
Life Outside the Clinic
When he’s not helping patients see their best, Dr. Kuchinka enjoys spending time outdoors with his family. Whether it’s skiing, biking, or paddling, he’s happy doing anything that gets him outside and moving.
He’s originally from Faribault, Minnesota, and is a proud pet parent to Olive, his rescue dog. She’s a mix, though she apparently channels strong poodle energy.
If you’re looking for him around town, you might spot him at OMC Smokehouse, his favorite local restaurant.
